Qualified medical practitioners by province

Some years ago I asked CRA to provide a list of medical practitioners qualified by province/territory in order to be able to ascertain whether or not an audit denial by CRA was correct.

I was told that this list couldn't be published. We would have to call in each time to request a specific situation.

I asked how could a list used to determine qualification of a claim for medical expenses by province as determined by the Income Tax Act be so closely held that taxpayers couldn't see it.

Well guess what? They published the list a few weeks ago and I just happened on it today. You can start to see why they wouldn't want this list published as there is no uniformity across the country.

In BC, traditional chinese medicine practitioners are exclusively licenced, but speech language pathologists aren't. It's all dependent on the individual province/territorial licencing laws.

Check in with your provincial politician if you don't like what you see on this list
