What's new?
Canadian MoneySaver has asked me back to write, and to present at their conference here in Vancouver at UBC in April 2013
Steve Dotto has asked me to present workshops about how to reduce the time it takes to deal with money at his new events, www.protechtivity.ca
What do you need to know about me?
I love a project, especially one where someone wants me to automate everything. I've been doing that for over 35 years.
I'm obsessive about doing it right. I have to reconcile to the penny. Totally bored by routines and deadlines. My passion is taxpayers rights about the rules. I believe everyone should be entitled to know the same things and take advantage of the credits and expenses there are to claim, and that focusing on that and not on cheating on your taxes would be better for all of us.
"TaxDetective®” is my brand. A client nicknamed me that and it stuck. The name refers to the research about tax and writing I do for a variety of publications.
This website is how I stay organized and remember all of the useful information I found so I could find it again.
You'll find useful links under my Free Stuff, and there's a subscription for $30 a year to more complex tax topics called TaxLinks Pro Portal.
The TaxLinks Pro Portal subscription, renewable each October 1 is $30. Whenever I write on a topic, I'll make up a web page with links, or improve a page that already exists. Often I will provide a link to that page with the article when it's published or it will form the basis of a study set for a professional development seminar I present to a local CGA Chapter.
If you're a business education teacher, go to Free Stuff to find the Student WorkBook on learning TurboTax® online complete with a 10 minute instructional video on how to introduce it in your computer lab (respecting student's privacy so it's anonymous) To find this, click on Free Stuff at the top, and select Student WorkBook.
At the eCommerce tab at the top you’ll find awesome products I've created like an e-Book on organizing your affairs plus 24 companion fillable Word forms if you're the one organizing someone else or your own financial paperwork. There are over 50 products, and at the end of October 2012, the total price list was over $950, so I bundled everything up and sell it for $290 for the whole lot to that point. It's one heck of a deal.
In 2012, I wrote and produced a five part video series on using QuickBooks software to create working papers, and used MIcroSoft OneNote as the platform. There are also short training videos on specific topics, for example, how to use Units of Measure to mix drinks for Fred's Bar is fun, mixing drinks from an accountant's perspective. Oh yes, everyone should buy their wine in boxes, not only does it keep, but it's cost effective.
I'm always adding products. I present workshops for bookkeepers via the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada (see their website to register @ www.ipbc.ca to register).
Recent additions to the product line after October 2012 bundle include:
- Inventory Parts series in November 2012,
- Quicken In Depth in January 2013
- Keeping Records in February 2013, a series of 4 (may end up being 5) on keeping records for non corporate taxpayers. It's about the process of completing a T2125 and not just about the form, but about the rules behind the form. We actually read from the Income Tax Act.
Check "Mark your Calendar" for upcoming events, and after the event, if it's been recorded, purchase the recording in the website store.
If you want me to show you how easy it is to manage and be in control of your money and your financial destiny using software and online banking technology, personally and for business, give me a call or email me.
