Perks, percolating, smell the coffee. What is it about working for someone else that brings out the sense of entitlement to freebies? I can still recall the wonder at being given employee “perks” but I caught on quickly. Perks were in lieu of regular pay.
Perks were designed to buy loyalty. Perks could be withdrawn if I didn’t behave a certain way. Loyalty included staying until the work was completed without overtime pay. I was told you “pay your dues”. Perks often hit my waistline, but seldom affected my net worth. They were the carrot at the end of a big stick ...
